Book Review : 1984 by George Orwell
“War is peace.
Freedom is slavery
Ignorance is strength.”
“Who controls the past controls the future.
Who controls the present controls the past.”
” “Everything faded into mist.
The past was erased, the erasure was forgotten,
the lie became truth.”
These three quotes keep sounding in my head , ever since I read the book .
I felt frightened , excited , and astonished for the author’s perception of what we are living today . To be honest I could not dive into it . It took me a long time though the style is straightforward , but the story and its themes are heavy .
1984 is a destopian classic (a genre of fictional wrting used to explore social and political structures in “a dark nightmare world. Most commonly it is used in science fiction ) by George Orwell , published in June 1949. What I can say that the book is more than literary production (there’s alot to say indeed). The story goes around Winston Smith , who live in Oceania where the ruling authoritarian political party controls everything ; historical information can be changed for the sake of “ Big brother” , even love can be monitored where Winston and Julia discuss their hopes for freedom outside of the oppressive State . Can you imagine ?
George Orwell in fact has traveled through time . He imagined or anticipated the future in view of the concerns of today’s society about the surveillance and manipulation that governments can do . 1984 a year when many States has fallen victim to dictatorship , repression and persecution .
1984 is one of my favorite books I have read this year . Un chef d’oeuvre ! It left me wonder about the fate of today’s society and countries .
Rating : 5/5 . I highly recommend it !
Happy reading !
