Book Review : Orchid by The First Tunisian English Author : Sahar Ayachi
Orchid takes you on a thrilling adventure of human psyche , centred around the character of Lola . Throughout the book we follow Lola’s internal struggles on a search for self-discovery , and the opacity around Orchid . At the beginning the book seems tedious and slowly , YET the story kept me curious and intrigued . Sahar truly understands the reader psyche !
Lola’s story was felt and relatable . Every line and every prose take the reader’s breath and ultimately drown you in the powerful imagery ; beautiful , yet horrific , and then you end up blowing away by its meaning and the messages delivered by the author .
The story is just fabulous , however my only criticism is there is no plot . As a reader myself , my impression is that the author focused only on Lola and her story , and maybe she unconsciously omitted the story side . From my point of view the characters were poorly developed . I couldn’t get who are Rhys and Mora . How do they blossom in Lola’s life ? Do they exist or are they just fictional in Lola’s head ? I wish I felt more chemistry between Lola and Mora .
Despite this I had a blast reading Orchid .
To the readers here , if you are through mental illness , this book is your mirror where hopes and demons are alive . As Sahar claims : “ Take care of your Orchid before it withers and fades away ; for if it does , it will be taking a big part of you with it . If you think the path you’re drawing for yourself starts to match the one you just read about , please reconsider your painting palettes “.
To Sahar : Thank you for the messages you delivered to the reader ! Wishing you more success and waiting for what you will write next .
Rating : 3/5 . I recommend it !
Happy Reading !
