The Brazilian artist Odyr illustrated George Orwell’s classic 1945 book Animal Farm as a graphic novel.

Animal Farm a destopian was published in 1945 . In his novella , George Orwell takes the form of a fairy tale to allegorize the Russian Revolution (1917) when the tsarist autocracy was collapsed and the Bolsheviks came into power under the Staline regime .

A story about group of animals declare a revolution on Mr. Jones .Yet , a group of pigs , in particular Snowball and Napoleon manage to quibble over the future of the farm , struggling for power and influence among other animals . Orwell brillantly creates characters to fit the roles in a satirical way to portray how governments exploit and deny citizens of their basic rights . Such expressions as “all animals are equal , but some animals are more equal than others” have shaped political dialogues and peoples opinion today to highlight the violation of people’s freedom and the injustice against the common people .

How did Animal Farm explicitly perform the “ Jasmin Revolution “ ?

December 17th ,2010 marked the first protests in Sidi Bouzid when Mohamed Bouazizi set fire to himself . Bouaziz’s self-immolation has come as a flash drop against pervasive ill-treatment, police corruption, economic precarity and unemployment . The protesters called for work , freedom and dignity . The success of the uprisings in Tunisia has led Egypt, Libya, Syria, and Yemen to revolt . November 2011 , Troïka managed to form a Tunisian coalition government ruled by Hamadi Jebali and then Ali Larayedh, bringing together three political parties represented in the Constituent Assembly with the aim of forming a stable majority .

Meanwhile , in Orwell’s Animal Farm , a farm run by Mr . Jones and the animals were suffering from injustice , cruelty and exploitation . In this regard , the animals declare a rebellion on their master . A group of pigs , in particular Snowball and Napoleon manage to run the farm , calling for devotion and dedication to the creation of the new animal society, in which all the forms of injustice and exploitation, prosperity and justice prevail .

Both animals and ordinary Tunisian people , Old Major and Bouazizi succeeded to collapse their leaders’ regime . But, what if revolution turns into knives ?

George Orwell brillantly employs satire to underline the shameless betrayal by leaders who promised change . In fact , they are opportunist and do not spare any effort to take advantages of their position .

Orwell carefully creates his characters to fit the role so as to underline that political problem lies on authoritarian rules. Napoleon led a successful revolution , yet he fired his fellow Snowball . He quibbled over the power, using a bunch of dogs as security apparatus . Squealer has been entrusted with information functions . He justifies Napoleon’s policies , convincing the animals of the wisdom of Napoleon decisions . The nature of these decisions, the motives behind them, whatever the price the animals will pay for .

In Tunisian context , the leader of the Islamist party (who performs Napoleon in Orwell’s Animal Farm) considers himself rebellious and leader of the Tunisian revolution . However , he established a State within a State ruled through foreign and territorial relations, secret organizations and suspicious financing . Yet , his fellows found legal and constitutional justification for his policies .

George Orwell’s Animal Farm successfully draws shameless malice by leaders who took advantages of peoples naïveté in the name of freedom , equality and prosperity to fulfill their egoistic personal ambition .

To conclude , George Orwell does not necessarily prophecies the “Jasmin Revolution” , but the readers who have observed the events will sum up that Orwell brillantly had foreseen the Tunisian Revolution .
